Surprise! We’re home!

As some of you may now be aware, Mika and I are back in the United States! If this news is surprising to you, that was sort of the whole point. We have been planning a secret trip home since early into our India travels. It all began with a suggestion by Mika’s stepfather Jeff, who floated the idea of us coming back for her sister’s college graduation, and very generously offered to pay to make it happen. That plan quickly evolved into a summer break in the homeland that, for an extra twist, should be kept entirely secret from as many people as possible. The idea was to surprise both of our families at the same time during the last weekend of May. Considering how much deception, misdirection, and half-truths were required to keep this production a secret, it came off perfectly.

So—we’ve been back and laying low for a little while, and now it is public knowledge. Our summer is gradually solidifying into a mix of time with family and friends, work to bankroll for future journeys, and road tripping. Between the two of us, we will be spending time in Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Alaska, and Montana for varying amounts of time, so contact us if you’re in one of those places and want to meet up. We’d love to chat with all of our friends and family in person about the adventures we’ve had, and we are beginning the very slow and arduous process of going through approximately 10,000 photos that we’ve taken to select, organize, and edit the best of them. We probably won’t use the blog much in the next few months except to finish up our final India posts and to let our readers know when photo albums are ready for viewing.

And what comes next? Well, we won’t go into detail right now, but traveling and teaching are still very much our plans for the foreseeable future. We already have tickets back to an exotic Asian country that has been on both of our must-see lists for a while, though we’re not saying which quite yet. We’ll leave the states in October and continue the adventure. Until then, cheers!
